Gumgarh is a structure of a perfect square having 4 high walls of equal height joined together to make a high building without a root. The structure has no door or window. There is an inbuilt stair engraved in the inner walls of it. It is installed on a high ground. Few people believe that it was used as prison and the others believe that it was used as a granary. It was probably the water tank of the Royal tamily and water was supplied from it to meet their daily needs. There is also a rumour that the then Malla Kings used this structure to punish people by throwing them down from the top of it.
