Three famous canon found in the undivided Bengal are the Dalmadal canon of Bishnupur made by the Malla ruler, the Jahankosh of Murshidabad and the Kale-khan of Dhaka. A tew cannons to be found at Bishnupur which bear witness to the military powers of the Malla kings of the bygone days. Of these, the largest one is known as the Dalmadal canon which is placed on a high base and offers a grand view. According to Sanskrit scholars the name Dalmadal came from the Sanskrit word Dalmordon. Experts are of the opinion that the barrel of Dalmadal canon is made by the welding of three iron rings one at the top of the other and the total length of the canon is made by the welding of 3x63=189 iron rings. The length of the canon is 3.84 meter. The maximum outer diameter of the canon is 66.5 centimeter and the inner diameter of the bore is 29 centimeter. There is a Persian inscription over the surface of the canon. It is believed that the Dalmadal was fired by the god Madanamohana himself during the Maratha invasion at Mallabhum.
